Fate of Indians in Islamic State: Seven recruited, six others dead

New Delhi: Despite efforts to prevent activities of militant group Islamic State, seven Indians are reportedly working for the terror organisation while six other youths have been killed fighting for them.

The Indians recruited by the Islamic States hail from different states including Telangana, Karnataka and Mumbai, according to news reports.

Out of the seven Indians, only one is reportedly in active combat while others are doing odd jobs like cooking, cleaning etc.

Recently, 17 Indian youths from Telangana were prevented by the Indian government from travelling to Syria to join IS.

The government had recently held a high-level meeting and formalised a strategy to neutralise extremist ideologies such as that espoused by IS.

The meeting was attended by DGPs and home secretaries of various states.

Involvement of community elders, monitoring of radical social media platforms and real-time sharing of information are a few steps government plans to take to prevent youths getting attracted to radical ideologies, such as that propagated by the terror group.
