New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday suspended the registration of Greenpeace India under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
The NGO, however, has vowed to keep up its fight for environment.
The organisation's all seven bank accounts have been frozen with immediate effect.
The MHA suspended the registration of the organisation under the FCRA in the wake of allegations of its involvement in inciting “anti-development” campaigns across the country, a daily said, adding the a show-cause notice has also been served to the NGO, asking why its registration should not be cancelled.
The NGO had bank accounts in IDBI Bank, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank.
Earlier, the NGO denied receiving any show-cause notice but later said its legal team is reviewing the order.

According to a report in a daily, security agencies had submitted their reports to the MHA, suggesting cancellation of its FCRA registration by calling Greenpeace India as a threat to national economic security.
In January 2015, the Delhi High Court had directed the government to "unblock" foreign contributions to the tune of Rs 1.87 crore received by controversial NGO 'Greenpeace' from its Amsterdam headquarters, saying the ministry showed "no material to restrict access" to the foreign fund.
