Govt pressurised LS Speaker to admit adjournment motion on Lalitgate: Kharge

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday said the BJP-led NDA government pressurised the Lok Sabha Speaker to admit the adjournment motion on Lalit Modi issue involving Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was pressurised by the Govt to admit adjournment motion on Lalit Modi issue.”

Earlier this morning, Kharge's Congress colleague Ghulam Nabi Azad also attacked the NDA government and said the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which ended on Thursday, showed that the BJP does not believe in democracy.

Azad also blamed the ruling party for the logjam that stalled business in the almost four-week session.

Azad, in a press conference here, said the Parliament session proved that the BJP did not believe in consensus and democracy.

Holding the BJP responsible for the Parliament logjam, he said the ruling party did not want the house to run.

Azad also said the party is "intoxicated" with power.

No major legislative business could be transacted in either house of Parliament since July 21 when parliament convened till August 13 when it adjourned sine die.
