New Delhi: CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday accused the Centre of using the Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU ) incident to target rival student union leaders in the campus. Yechury said police should prove charges against the twenty people accused of shouting anti-national slogans.

"20 people who are being targeted, it should be proved that they are at fault," said Yechury.

He also alleged that government is trying to plant RSS people and their ideology in the university. "The students unions are being targeted so that RSS ideology could be established in the campus," added Yechury.

Yechury also questioned the authenticity of the video tape, on the basis of which Delhi Police has released the list of twenty accused in JNU incident.

"Police should proved that these incidents happened. JNU has no cameras so where did the tape come from,"said Yechury.

Yechury was speaking to mediapersons after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. He was also accompanied by fellow comrade and CPI leader D Raja.

D Raja's daughter's name also appears in the list of 20 accused in the JNU incident.

Yechury told that he has been assured by the Union Home Minister that no innocent person will be punished.
