Dawood Ibrahim row: NDA govt clueless about his whereabouts, Congress condemns ignorance

New Delhi: Hours after government informed Lok Sabha that it is unaware about underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's whereabouts, Congress on Tuesday condemned Centre's ignorance on the issue.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI that while everyone knows about Ibrahim's whereabouts, government is acting ignorant.

“The whole world knows where Dawood Ibrahim is, and you (GOI) don't know?” Singhvi was quoted as saying by ANI.

He further added, “You can say that we are unable to get him, but to say this that we are unaware of his whereabouts, weakens India’s fight against terror.”

While making a statement in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary confirmed that the underworld don is not on Indian intelligence radar and extradition process will be initiated once Dawood is located.

"The United Nations Security Council has also issued a special notice against him. The subject has not been located so far. Extradition process with regard to Dawood Ibrahim would be initiated once the subject is located," he said in reply to a written question.

The government has made requests in respect of fugitives wanted by Indian authorities in terrorist cases, namely Willy Naruenartwanich to Thailand, Usmani Ghani Khan to Saudi Arabia, Abdul Wahid Siddibapa to the United Arab Emirates, Velu alias Boopalan alias Dileepan alias Niranjana and Mohammad Hanif Tiger alias Mohammad Hanif Umerji Patel to Britain for expeditious extradition, Chaudhary added.
