New Delhi: Union Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that he is very happy that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has finally been rolled out.
"It is a very big programme according to which any consumer, while saving his number, can go to another service. The consumers will be empowered due to this. I was looking into this issue from the time I became the minister," he said.
"The decision was taken in November and I am very happy that the service has finally started," he added.
The countrywide Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which will allow customers to keep their existing mobile phone numbers while shifting between states and circles, become operational from today.
In order to avail the new facility, the subscribers will have to visit a store of their telecom operator or call the customer care number concerned.
