Delhi: India on Wednesday decided to extend air evacuation from Yemen by a day, as per Ministry of External Affairs.

Syed Akbaruddin, official spokesperson, MEA posted on micro-blogging website Twitter: “Responding to needs of 140 nurses India extends air evacuation from Yemen by a day. Fights planned for tomorrow also, subject to clearances.”

Earlier, the government had decided to end air evacuation from Sana'a today.

Meanwhile, talking exclusively to Zee Media Corp, Akbaruddin said that the MEA was working in a responsible manner and assured that they would bring back all Indians from Yemen.

“The humanitarian work will continue,” he said, adding, “We have saved 4000 Indians and also saved 500 people from other countries.”

Praising the efforts of all those involved in evacuation work the MEA spokesperson said that everyone worked in difficult conditions.

“We have made all efforts to save Indians in Yemen,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, the total number of Indian evacuees from war-ravaged Yemen yesterday had touched 4000 mark with nearly 700 more nationals, including 600 from Sanaa, rescued in three air sorties.

While 600 were rescued by Air India, over 100 were being evacuated from Al Hudaydah by INS Turkish, officials had said.

Sources had said that 4100 Indians had registered with the Indian mission in Yemen and most of them were out, as per PTI.
