India, Russia discuss mutual cooperation in nuclear energy, defence

President Pranab Mukherjee, currently on his four-day official visit to Russia, held bilateral talks with President Vladimir Putin, with the two leaders understood to have discussed mutual cooperation in various sectors, including nuclear energy and defence.

According to reports, the two leaders shared views on regional and global issues, with discussions on cooperation between India and Russia in the fields of higher education and space also understood to have taken place.

The official twitter account of the Rashtrapati Bhavan shared information about their meeting.

"President Putin thanked #PresidentMukherjee for his contributions to strong India-Russia relations during discussions," it tweeted.

Earlier on Saturday, President Mukherjee attended the 70th anniversary celebrations of Victory Day here, which commemorates Russia`s triumph over the Nazis in the Second World War.

A 70-member Indian Army contingent from the Grenadiers also took part in the parade.
