Lucknow: Lauding the role of the media as a bridge between people and government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said sometimes the information it provides helps administration to take prompt action.
"Media acts as a bridge between the people and government.. Sometime government and administration get such information through media which is not available with us and prompt action is required on it to provide help to the affected people," Yadav said addressing a convention of Indian Federation of Working Journalist (IFWJ) here.
Recalling contribution of the media in peoples' movement since Independence, Yadav cited the various media saying these days, people have information in abundance.
"But importance should be given to information which could help state and country to march ahead," Yadav said adding, the media should keep an eye on the decisions of the governments so they can make people aware about the pros and cons of these decisions.
Welcoming 500 delegates from India and abroad, Yadav said that media is the fouth pillar of democracy and if democracy has to be strengthened, the freedom of media has to be maintained.
