JD(U) welcomes Sonia Gandhi's decision to meet President Pranab Mukherjee

Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Monday welcomed Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi's plan to meet President Pranab Mukherjee this week to draw his attention towards "growing intolerance" in the country.

New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Monday welcomed Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi's plan to meet President Pranab Mukherjee this week to draw his attention towards "growing intolerance" in the country.

"I support the decision of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi who are planning to march to Rashtrapati Bhavan. This is a unique way to protest intolerance," Tyagi said.

CPI leader D Raja said it is a fact that there is growing intolerance and the situation is "so worse" that it is agitating the mind of well-meaning citizens.

"It is not only scholars, artists, writers and historians and scientists, but even the industrialists are worried about the situation. They cannot run industries in this atmosphere," Raja said.

Congress leader PL Punia said there is an atmosphere of distress in the country.

"The whole country is worried, the Congress party is worried. Our leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul have talked about the same number of times. Be it artists, writers, everyone is saying the same. Not to forget Kiran Shaw and Narayan Muthry. Now the BJP is saying they are all anti-BJP. Why did these people not speak under NDA's rule under Vajpayee" he said.

Sonia and Rahul along with senior leaders and MPs are expected to take up the matter with the President.

They are also expected to take out a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Congress sources had said.

Voicing concern over "rising intolerance", Sonia had yesterday vowed to fight the "diabolical design" of divisive forces to spread hatred, which posed a threat to the unity of the country.
