New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Thursday sought Special Cell help to trace Umar Khalid, who is absconding since JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested over alleged anti-India slogans at Jawahar Lal University.

Khalid, a PhD student in JNU, had planned to organise cultural evening to mark the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on February 9. However, soon after the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, he went absconding.

Khalid is a member of Demorcratic Students' Union and he was a key organiser of the Afzal Guru event where anti-national slogans like 'Bharat ki barbaadi', 'Bharat ke tukde' and 'Pakistan zindabad' were raised.

Delhi Police had submitted a report on its alleged crackdown on a group of protesting JNU students on February 9 to the Ministry of Home Affairs and blamed students leader Kanhaiya Kumar and a 'wanted' student Umar Khalid for events leading to violence in the varsity campus.
