Yakub Memon is likely to be executed at 7 am on July 30

New Delhi: The 1993 Mumbai blasts co-conspirator Yakub Memon is all set to be hanged till death, tomorrow, after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his fresh mercy plea.

The President was Yakub's last hope as he is set to be hanged at Nagpur Central prison at 7 am. Pranab Mukherjee took the decision after the Ministry of Home Affairs found no merit in the fresh plea.

As July 30 was earlier fixed by the Maharashtra government as the date for execution of Yakub, preparations are complete at the jail to carry out the execution.

Given the sensitive nature of the case, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met senior police officials to take stock of the security situation in the state.

President Mukherjee rejected Yakub Memon's plea hours after the Supreme Court rejected his petition against a death warrant issued on him.

The apex court had earlier dismissed the curative petition of Yakub. A three-judge bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Prafulla C Pant and Amitava Roy said proper procedure was followed in disposing of Yakub`s curative petition.

Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao had also rejected Memon`s mercy petition.
