Lok Sabha Speaker greets people on Holi, women's day

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday greeted people on Holi and also International Women`s Day which falls on March 8.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday greeted people on Holi and also International Women`s Day which falls on March 8.

"Woman, as a mother, is a life force and nature has so ordained us that creation takes place only from an empowered being. Women have been contributing to the uplift of society in the role of a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother," she said.

The speaker made the comments as the house will go for a four-day break from tomorrow for Holi and meet on Monday. The International Women`s Day falls on Sunday. 

The speaker said that "maximum participation of women should be ensured in decision-making processes".

She said,"the theme of International Women`s Day was `Empowering Women`, Empowering Humanity: Picture it!` which "means empowerment of women is empowerment of society".

In her message on Holi, she said,"it was a festival of celebrations and colours". 

"I pray to God that, we as people`s representatives shall be successful in bringing the colours of prosperity and well being into our social lives and at the national level," she said.
