Mamata Banerjee has credential to be PM, in her heart she supports demonetisation: Baba Ramdev

Kolkata: In what is sure to raise eyebrows in the political arena, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday said, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had enough credential to become Prime Minister.

Heaping praise on the Trinamool Congress chief, the yoga guru said, "There should not be any question regarding her credibility in politics.”

Baba Ramdev believes that in her heart the West Bengal Chief Minister supports demonetisation, although she opposes its implementation.

"I think she is against the procedure (of implementation), but in her heart, I believe she probably agrees that it is a good (move)," Ramdev said.

Notably, Banerjee has been at the forefront in criticising PM Narendra Modi over demonetisation.

The TMC supremo had likened PM Modi to "Hitler" who violated the rights of people.

The West Bengal CM has announced to fight till the end against the "anti-people" decision, which has imposed an "undeclared financial emergency".

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the move, he sarcastically said that former PM Manmohan Singh, who had never spoken a word on any issue, had actually spoken now on the issue.

"This is the effect of demonetisation you see," he quipped.

Claiming demonetisation has terminated terror funding, Ramdev said he had "sowed the seeds" of demonetisation in 2009.

"From 2009 to 2014, I had taken it forward and asked the government to withdraw the high-value notes because they are media for black money and corruption. Now with demonetisation, funding for terror outfits and Naxalites has also stopped," he said.
