New Delhi: A man allegedly killed his 11-year-old daughter in south-west Delhi's Baba Haridas Nagar as he considered her to be an obstacle in marrying his neighbour with whom he was having an illicit relationship, police said on Tuesday.

The accused identified as 35-year-old Mahaveer, a resident of Dichaon Village in Baba Haridas Nagar, killed his daughter last night and surrendered to police this morning.

"Mahaveer strangulated his daughter to marry his lover as she was aware about her father's illicit relationship and she was not ready to accept the other woman as her step-mother," said a police official said.

Mahaveer's wife had on April 23 committed suicide by jumping before a train after she came to know that Mahaveer was having illicit relationship with their neighbour.

The incident came to light in the morning when he made a call to the police control room informing that he had killed his daughter and wanted to surrender.

A police team reached the spot and nabbed him.

A case of murder has been registered and further investigation was underway, police said.
