Obama in India: Many firsts in US President's India visit

New Delhi: US President Barack Obama's India visit could be remembered for not just the end of logjam on nuclear deal that dominated headlines during the three-day visit, a several firsts by Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke of warm and cordial ties between the leaders of the two countries.

Obama's India tour, which ended with 'Namaste' will also be remembered for several other firsts which clearly reflects the bonhomie between the leaders of the two countries.

As the US President and his wife Michelle Obama arrived at the New Delhi airport from Air Force One on Sunday morning, Modi broke the protocol to personally receive them. According to the protocol, the PM generally meets the foreign leaders in a formal ceremony at the Rashtrapari Bhavan.

The famous 'bear hug' that followed after Modi greeted the Obamas at New Delhi airport has dominated the headlines ever since and speaks volumes about their 'bromance'.

Meanwhile, Obama will now be known as the first Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade to have not arrived and depart with the President in his vehicle according to customs.

Instead, he arrived separately in his highly armoured vehicle 'The Beast' which acts as a security shield of the US President.

The US President also broke the US Secret Service security protocol by staying out in the open air for more than 45 minutes. Obama attended the 66th Republic Day parade along with Modi in the open area of Rajpath for two hours.

In yet another departure from protocol, Modi went with the Obamas to see them off at the airport as their three-day tour wrapped up.
