Guwahati: BJP general secretary Ram Madhav slammed Assam Congress leader Nilamoni Sen Deka on Sunday for his misogynist remark against Human and Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.

Deka had caused a stir when he said that many refer to Irani as second wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Former Agriculture minister of Assam made the remark at a public gathering in Lower Assam's Nalbari district.

On the other hand, another Congress leader from Assam, Roopjyoti Kurmi, an MLA, also purportedly made a similar remark, again at a public meetings today.

The loud-mouthed Congress leader's remark did not go down well with the BJP cadre.

Condemning his 'shameful' remark, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav also questioned the leadership of Congress party.

Also, strongly condemning the remarks, Union Sports Minister and Assam unit BJP chief Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters, "It reflects the polluted and perverted mind of the Congress", as per PTI.

Sonowal said Assam BJP will soon file a defamation case against them.
