Singapore: Singapore's Changi Airport will add about 90 new flights a week this year to 10 Asian cities including Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata, a media report said today.

With these additional fights, Changi Airport will be able to offer more than 8,000 weekly one-way seats to popular Asian cities such as Dalian, Fuzhou and Xiamen in China, Luang Prabang in Laos, Yangon in Myanmar and Cebu in the Philippines.

About two-thirds of the capacity growth is on routes to China and India, Changi Airport Group said.

With these new services, the airport's weekly scheduled flights are expected to cross a record of more than 7,000.

The numbers are based on scheduled pre-filed by carriers for the Northern Winter season which started last week and ends in March next year.

"Building on the healthy momentum of intra-Asia travel which has been driving Changi Airport's passenger traffic growth so far this year, we are pleased to see the strengthening of our network to Asia in the coming weeks," Changi's managing director Lim Ching Kiat was quoted as saying by the 'Straits Times'.

Overall, Changi handled 43.5 million passengers in the first nine months of this year, up 6.2 per cent on the year.

Between January and September, the two-way traffic from Singapore and China grew by 15.3 per cent on the year and India by 4.2 per cent per year.
