Duabai: On the occasion of Malayalam New Year Chingam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the Keralites a Happy New Year before starting his speech at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, while addressing the Indian community here.

PM initiated his speech with greetings to those who hail from Kerala. The Keralites are celebrating their New Year today. Today marks the first day of the Malayalam month of Chingam.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi wished the same on microblogging website Twitter: “Greetings to Malayali community at the start of Chingam, the 1st month of Malayalam New Year. May this year bring happiness & prosperity. Glad to mark this special day of Malayali community in UAE, where the community has a key presence & is admired for its industrious nature.”

The Prime Minister, who wrapped up his two-day visit to UAE today, also told a gathering of around 50,000 Indians at the Dubai International Cricket stadium that the message of collective fight against terrorism which has emanated from here will be "understood" by those sponsoring terrorism, in an apparent reference to Pakistan.
