Narendra Modi to meet Pak PM Nawaz Sharif on sidelines of SAARC summit on Thursday?

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be reportedly meeting his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of SAARC summit on Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at a retreat near Kathmandu on Nov 27, as per news reports.

Both the leaders will be attending the 18th SAARC summit in Nepal.

This will be the first meeting between the two leaders after Sharif came to India in May this year to attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony.

However, tensions between the two countries escalated after ceasefire violations at the LoC.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj briefly met Pak PM's National Security Adviser (NSA) Sartaj Aziz during the summit hinting at possibility of thawing relations between the two countries.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin had earlier said that India was in favour of cooperative and peaceful ties with Pakistan. "Prime Minister Modi is keen to have meaningful dialogues with as many south Asian colleagues as possible," he said.

The statements by both sides did not clearly indicate whether the two Prime Ministers will meet on the sidelines of the 18th SAARC summit where there is a growing focus on Indo-Pak issues.
