Nashik Kumbh, Mumbai, Pune on alert after Gurdaspur terror attack

Security has been enhanced across the length and breadth of the country in the wake of the terror attack in Punjab's Gurdaspur, which has so far claimed the lives of six people, including a terrorist.

New Delhi: Security has been enhanced across the length and breadth of the country in the wake of the terror attack in Punjab's Gurdaspur, which has so far claimed the lives of six people, including a terrorist.

Cities like Nashik where Kumbh pilgrimage is undergoing, Mumbai and Pune have been put on alert. Meanwhile security has also been beefed up at the North and South Block where several important central government offices are situated.

Meanwhile, the Special Forces team has reached the location of the terror attack, which has been cordoned off.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier held a high-level meeting in Parliament with Union Ministers Manohar Parrikar, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has condemned the attack, saying his prayers were with the families of those of who lost their lives in the attack.

IG Border Zone, Ishwar Chander, said there is no hostage situation till now while Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that Special Forces have been deployed in Gurdaspur and the counter insurgency forces are already there.
