Mumbai: Fourteen crew members of a sinking ship were rescued off Daman coast on Wednesday morning.
The dramatic sea rescue was carried out jointly by the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard.
The vessel sank 24 nautical miles south of Daman (75 nautical miles north off Mumbai).
According to Indian Navy PRO DK Sharma, an SOS was received from vessel MV Coastal Pride - a cement carrier - early this morning.
One SeaKing chopper of the Navy and two Chetak helicopters of the Coast Guard were deployed for the rescue operation, Sharma added.
Navy launched the SeaKing chopper at 0758 hours from INS Shikra, Colaba, while Coast Guard launched two Chetak helicopters at around 0840 hours for the rescue operation.
Rescued crew members have been safely evacuated to Umargaon.
Earlier on Monday, Navy helicopters had rescued 20 persons on board a listing merchant ship off Vasai coast in neighbouring Palghar district.
