New Delhi: There seems to be no end in sight to controversies and oppositions over National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).
Now, World Psychiatric Association (WPA) has also opposed the NEET in regional languages.
"The government's move to conduct NEET for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in regional languages too will only jeopardise the very concept of standardising the entrance examinations across the country and improving the quality of medical education," Roy Abraham Kallivayalil, secretary general of WPA said, according to a report in The Hindu.
Notably, Dr. Kallivayalil is the first Asian to assume the coveted WPA post.
"Students aspiring for MBBS and BDS courses should certainly have a basic knowledge of English language because all major medical texts were in English," Dr. Kallivayalil added.
Earlier, on Monday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda met President Pranab Mukherjee and briefed him on the Ordinance on the uniform medical entrance examination NEET that seeks to keep state boards out of its ambit.
The meeting lasted for more than half-an-hour and the minister is learnt to have briefed the President on three set of issues -- different exams of state boards, syllabi and regional languages.
The phase two of NEET for admission to medical courses is scheduled on 24 July.
