New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who has often been criticised for not joining social networking websites, has signed up on Twitter.

A Twitter account called 'OfficeOfRG' made its debut Wednesday evening.

The account has already got more than 14,000 followers, and among them is the official Twitter account of the National Students Union of India (NSUI).

This is the official account of the Office of Rahul Gandhi Member of Parliament vice president, Indian National Congress, the profile in the Twitter account says.

Rahul returned to Delhi after a 57-day sabbatical, which included a course in vipassana or meditation.

Missing from action for over a month, the 44-year-old Congress vice president was on a 'leave of absence' since the Budget Session of Parliament that began on February 23.

The party had contended Gandhi's absence premised on his need to chart out party's future course in "isolation", adding that Gandhi had requested for "some time to reflect on recent events and the future course for the party".

However, there has been speculation that he was unhappy for not getting a free hand to run the party, a contention which the party has officially denied.

Ever since Rahul returned, he has tried to corner the Narendra Modi-led government over Land Acquisition Bill, farmers' suicides and Real Estate Bill issues.

In a move aimed at mounting pressure on the government over the agrarian crisis, the Gandhi scion recently visited Punjab and Maharashtra to interact with farmers about the problems.

After his visits to Punjab and Maharashtra, Rahul on 12th May will begin a 15 km padyatra in Telangana's Adilabad district covering 5 villages starting from Wadial Village with focus on the issue of farmers' suicide.
