Jammu: Pakistan resorted to fresh ceasefire violation on Sunday morning and opened fire at the RS Pura sector in Jammu district, targeting a Border Security Force (BSF) post on the International Border (IB) here, hours after they had fired two to three mortar shells in Nowapind border outpost area yesterday night.

Once again violating the 2003 ceasefire between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir border, three rounds of small arms fire came from the Pakistani side at around 11:00 am today, triggering a gun battle, officials said, as per an ANI report.

Meanwhile, the BSF, whose 127 battalion was at the post, retaliated. However, no loss of life and property has been reported so far. The development comes amidst the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan at Adelaide over World Cup cricket match 2015.

"The firing stopped immediately after the Rangers used small arms to target the BSF outpost," an officer said, IANS reported.

Pakistan Rangers had last month targeted some BSF outposts in RS Pura sector hours after US President Barack Obama left India after attending the Republic Day celebrations.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra had however said that people in border villages should be provided adequate facilities because of the sustained ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Vohra was speaking at the two-day conference of governors chaired by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

He also stressed the need for giving high importance to the rapid development of border areas.

Stating that there can be no development without effective connectivity, the governor had said that Kashmir has very poor road network, which leads to unsatisfactory and costly transport.
