PM Modi is prisoner of his own image, interested in TRP politics: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Lashing out at the Prime Minister over demonetisation, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Friday, accused Narendra Modi of inflicting suffering on the common man.

Speaking at the Congress Parliamentary meet, Rahul said, “Congress never gave India a PM who was a prisoner of his own image.”

Accusing the PM of being interested in “TRP politics”, he said, “We never gave India a PM who based his entire policy making strategy on TRPs.”

“We never gave India a PM who bypassed the experience of those sitting in the institutions,” Rahul said, adding, “The country has suffered tremendous damage as a result of vanity and incompetence of our PM.”

The Congress leader also accused the Prime Minister of being silent when Kashmir was burning.

Although the Parliamentary Party Meeting is normally chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul chaired the meeting for the first time in the absence of her mother, who was recently admitted to a Delhi hospital with some ailment.

Earlier, Rahul had said, “The Prime Minister took this decision (demonetisation) without thinking of the consequences.”

''. "Concentration of power in the hands of one individual is not good but dangerous for the country. The chaos due to the Prime Minister's decision of demonetisation is a direct result of this concentration of power," he said.

"The demonetisation decision has hurt the economy in unimaginable ways and has severely dented it besides hitting the fishermen in coastal areas, farmers in northern India, labourers, artisans and daily wage earners," Rahul said.
