PM Narendra Modi salutes 'unparalleled accomplishments' of girl child

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday saluted what he termed was the 'unparalleled accomplishments' of the girl child on the occasion of the National Girl Child Day.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday saluted what he termed was the 'unparalleled accomplishments' of the girl child on the occasion of the National Girl Child Day.

The Prime Minister took to twitter to share his salutations.

"On National Girl Child Day, I salute the unparalleled accomplishments of the girl child. Their role in nation building is paramount," he tweeted.

"Let us affirm to end discrimination against the girl child and ensure our daughters get equal opportunities to shine," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier this week made an impassioned plea for the rights of the girl child in Panipat, where he launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign.

The 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign, which means 'Save the girl child, educate the girl child', aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country targeted at changing societal mindsets and creating awareness about the criticality of the issue.

It will have focussed intervention and multi-sectoral action in 100 districts with low Child Sex Ratio.

It is a major inter-ministerial initiative of the Government of India bringing together Ministries, institutions and civil societies in a rational effort to reverse the declining sex ratio.
