Poonam Mahajan replaces Anurag Thakur as new Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president

The 36-year-old Poonam Mahajan is the daughter of late party leader Pramod Mahajan and currently a Lok Sabha member from Mumbai North-Central.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday named first-time Lok Sabha MP Poonam Mahajan as the party's youth wing president, replacing Anurag Thakur.

This is the first major reshuffle in the BJP since Shah took over as party president for the second time.

Shah also named new chiefs for four other party wings -- SC, ST, OBC and Kisaan morchas.

The 36-year-old Poonam Mahajan is the daughter of late party leader Pramod Mahajan and currently a Lok Sabha member from Mumbai North-Central.

Thakur, who is also a Lok Sabha MP and BCCI chief, was appointed as president of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha in June 2010.

Vinod Sonkar, a Lok Sabha member from Kaushambi, Ramvichar Netam, a Rajya Sabha member from Chhattisgarh, Bhadohi MP​ Virendra Singh 'Mast' and former Uttar Pradesh MP​ Dara Singh Chauhan were named as new presidents of party's SC, ST, Kisan and OBC wings respectively.

Sonkar replaces Dushyant Kumar Gautam while Netam, Chauhan, and Mast come in place of Faggan Singh Kulaste, SP Singh Baghel and Vijaypal Singh Tomar respectively.

Mast (60) is a third-term MP who represents Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha.

Chauhan has joined BJP last year after quitting BSP.
