New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, in the first meeting after his nearly-two month long break from politics, here on Friday met young secretaries of All India Congress Committee and directed them to reach out to people and raise public issues.

Gandhi's two-hour long meeting saw a "free and frank discussion" but he was not inclined to entertain blame games.

Sources said when some secretaries complained against some individuals, Gandhi asked them to tell him instead what activities they have carried out in the states, of which they were given the charge.

They said that secretaries were also directed not to air out what transpired in the two-hour long meeting during which the Congress Vice President took stock of political situation and status of organisational structure in states under their charge.

Gandhi also assured the secretaries that they would be given more responsibilities in the backdrop of their complaints earlier that they are not consulted on major issues.

No party general secretary or senior was present in the meeting, they added.

Earlier, Congress Vice President had held one-on-one meeting with party general secretaries after Congress' debacle in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and had met party workers from grass root separately.

Asked about the meeting, AICC Communication Department in-charge Randeep Surjewala said Gandhi said that Congress Vice President enquired about the status of membership drive, organisational structure and political developments in their states.
