Hyderabad: Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday hit back at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and said that BJP leaders have reached the dignified pedestal because of the character building by the organisation.

“We have reached this stage because of our hard work and character building by the RSS, but they (Congress) reached this stage not because of hard work, but because of dynasty,” Naidu told ANI.

“The RSS is ready for selfless service. If RSS influence spreads all over the country, people will benefit, as will the country,” he added.

Speaking at an NSUI convention in the national capital yesterday, Gandhi had targeted the RSS for its influence over the BJP.

“Look at RSS cadres. They always stand in a straight line, and if anyone steps even a little out of line, they get caned. Discipline is an excuse for them, an excuse to kill individuality. Stop the government from allowing the RSS to interfere with governance,” he said.

The Congress vice president also said his party's greatest strength is to solve the most complex problems and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to deliver on his promises during his first year in office.

“The Congress believes in discipline, but, I have really understood the reality over the past 10 years. Earlier, I would wonder why there was no order, but now, I understand why. It is in the DNA of the Congress Party to listen to everyone. Others call it disorder, but this is the Congress Party's strength: it is in our DNA to solve the most complex of issues,” Gandhi said.
