Shocking and insensitive! Rajasthan women commission member clicks selfie with rape victim

Jaipur: In an incident that has left many shocked, a member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Women clicked a selfie with a rape victim whom they had gone to meet.

The display of insensitivity on part of the Commission member has forced the chairperson to seek a written explanation.

What's ironical is that the chairperson (Suman Sharma) herself can be seen in the selfie along with the member Somya Gurjar.

Gurjar clicked the selfie while meeting the rape victim in a Mahila police station in Jaipur North.

“I was talking to the victim when the member of the Commission clicked these selfies. I am not aware when she (Somya Gurjar) clicked. I do not favour such act and has sought a written explanation from her. She has been asked to submit the explanation by tomorrow,” Sharma told PTI.

Interestingly, two pictures, in which Gurjar is seen clicking the selfie, have already gone viral on WhatsApp and other social networks.

While Sharma has said she was not aware of the selfies being clicked, the pictures of the act that have gone viral reportedly show the chairperson looking in the frame of the selfie.

The 30-year-old victim was allegedly raped by her husband and his two brothers in Alwar district.

Shockingly, the accused had tattooed expletives on the victim's forehead and hand for not giving Rs 51,000 as dowry.

An FIR has already been registered in the case under sections of 498-A (Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act), 376 (punishment for rape)and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of IPC.
