New Delhi: Marking the celebration of India's 69th Independence Day, President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday hosted 'At Home' reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The President during the reception met various dignitaries including diplomats, politicians and ministers.

At the reception, Congress president Sonia Gandhi was seen hugging and exchanging greetings with Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also seen sharing light moments with former PM Manmohan Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Among others who were present during the occasion were Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other Union Ministers.

Many foreign envoys were present, including Richard Verma of the US and Nadir Patel of Canada -- both of Indian origin.

After the customary snacks, comprising sandwiches and savories, and tea and coffee were served, the president departed after the national anthem was played.

Though all the guests were special invitees, the security personnel of Rashtrapati Bhavan shut the door dividing Ashoka Hall, where the diplomats, ministers and other dignitaries were present, from the adjacent Banquet Hall, apparently to prevent other guests there from crowding the hall.

When the event is held in the Mughal Gardens, guests are able to mingle easily.
