Ranchi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Saturday stressed on maintaining dignity of the democratic temples - Parliament and Assemblies.
"Dignity should not be disregarded in the temple of democracy (Parliament, Assemblies and Councils)," Mahajan said here at a workshop - "Principle and Behaviour" - organised by the Jharkhand Assembly.
Addressing the MLAs and MPs from Jharkhand on the opening day, she emphasised that there was importance of speech and behaviour as well, in maintaining dignity.
Nothing could be materialised through din in the House, she said adding sometimes legislators think attention could be drawn through shouts, but it was not true as such members were taken as "shouting people".
Stating that people follow and admire representatives who maintain dignity, the Lok Sabha Speaker said lakhs of people keep watching every action and move of their representatives, even the smallest of their actions.
The people would support their representatives when they see them work, she added.
Describing the entry of 34 new MLAs to Jharkhand Assembly as a matter of pride, she said the two-day workshop would benefit them in learning parliamentary affairs.
