New Delhi: On a day when Delhi Police claimed that Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar did not commit suicide but was murdered, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy reacted by saying on Tuesday that she was killed because she knew some thing very important and wanted to reveal it.

Expressing supreme satisfaction over Delhi Police registering a case of murder under Section 302 of IPC, Swamy told ANI, “I am happy that police has finally developed nerve to register FIR, this was a murder of involving money.”

Swamy even claimed that Shashi Tharoor was a liar and had been suppressing the facts.

Importantly, Swamy was the first high-profile person to suspect a foul play in the mysterious murder of Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances at a luxury hotel here on January 17, 2014.

Just five weeks after Sunanda's death, Swamy had claimed that she was killed in a professional way.

Demanding a court-monitored investigation in the Sunanda's death case, Swamy had maintained that there was enough evidence that former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor's wife was murdered using Russian poison (polonium).

The BJP leader, while announcing his decision to file a PIL in the case, had said that he had the proof to support his charges.

The BJP leader had even written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a CBI investigation into the case. Importantly, Swamy had linked the death of Sunanda Pushkar with the alleged IPL money laundering row.

Swamy had also warned that if a SIT under the CBI is not set up to probe Sunanda's death, then he will move the court. On a number of occasions, Swamy had insisted that Sunanda Pushkar's death was a planned murder. He even blamed the former HRD Minister, Shashi Tharoor, and said, "He (Tharoor) definitely knows the identity of Sunanda Pushkar's murderer. He is not the murderer but he definitely knows who killed her."

Drawing attention to the IPL money laundering row, Swamy had then said that Sunanda Pushkar was allegedly aware of "too much" details. "She (Sunanda) had been speaking to various people about the possible IPL money laundering case. These people did talk about it after Sunanda's death and I have been informed by sources about the same."

Several months after Sunanda Pushkar's death, Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against unknown persons, claiming that Sunanda Pushkar did not commit suicide but was murdered.

"We have got the final medical report from AIIMS, and we have been told that it was an unnatural death," Bassi told the media, substantiating claims made by the veteran BJP leader.

"She died due to poisoning. Whether the poison was given orally or injected into her body is being investigated," Bassi said, adding the report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences was received December 29.

Pushkar was found dead in suite number 345 of Leela Palace Hotel in January last year days after she was locked in a bitter Twitter tiff with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, suspecting her of having an affair with her husband. Tarar denied the allegations though.
