Sushma helping Lalit Modi 'impropriety' of highest order: Congress

New Delhi: Congress leader P C Chacko on Saturday said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj`s action of helping a fugitive like Lalit Modi is the `impropriety` of the highest order.
Chacko further said that Swaraj is only responsible to make recommendations and has no right to take any decisions.
"What Sushma ji has admitted in her tweet is exactly the charge against her. Giving or issuing clearance or travel papers to an individual by the British government is not something which Sushmita Ji can decide. She can only make a recommendation....She is not the person to take decisions. It is a British Government who has to take a decision but the Foreign Minister of India used her office and her influence in recommending this person (Lalit Modi) who is a fugitive and against whom notices are being issued...Such a person was recommended by the minister. This is impropriety of the highest order"Chacko said.
He further added that the tweet by the External Affairs Minister was an admission of her guilt.
"When they (BJP) were in opposition, they were taking opposition. When they are in the ruling party they move away from their own stand. So, Sushma ji`s tweet is the addmission of her guilt," he added.
Amid the continuing logjam in Parliament over Lalit Modi issue and the Vyapam scam, Swaraj had on Wednesday said that a senior Congress leader had pressed her for giving diplomatic passpost to Bagrodia.
"A senior Congress leader was pressing me hard to give diplomatic passport to coal scam accused Santosh Bagrodia," Swaraj tweeted.
"I will disclose name of the leader on the floor of the House."
