The administration aims to build 63 toilets per day to achieve 100 per cent sanitation coverage in next one year in the district under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a senior official said here on Tuesday.

Jalandhar: The administration aims to build 63 toilets per day to achieve 100 per cent sanitation coverage in next one year in the district under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a senior official said here on Tuesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit said under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan the aim is to build 2,000 toilets per month and 23,000 toilets in a year's time.

"The state government has issued funds and work in this direction would start soon," he said today after a meeting with the district administration officers.

"18 villages in the district have 100 per cent toilet facilities. 390 villages have 90 per cent coverage. We will target such villages first," he said.

He said every house will be given Rs 15,000 for building toilets.

"Those who have availed of benefits in earlier schemes would not be covered under this scheme," he said.

The administration has appointed 51 nodal officers to oversee the process and encourage people to help achieve 100 per cent coverage in the district, they said.
