London: Seven years after Will Pike was left paralysed in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the British national has won an undisclosed amount in compensation.
Pike was injured in the November 26-29, 2008 terror attack at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, Mumbai Mirror reported.
He had later filed a lawsuit in a London court against the hotel for not doing enough to protect its guests.
Pike suffered paralysis when he fell down 50 feet while trying to escape during the attack – he broke his back and pelvis in the process.
In the lawsuit filed in a London court later, Pike accused the hotel of putting the lives of its employees and guests in danger by ignoring the alert about a possible terror attack.
The Taj Group had argued that the London court had no jurisdiction to try the case; London High Court, however, ruled that the case could be heard in Britain as the trial in India would be endless.
This is the first case of compensation claim being settled in the 26/11 case involving a private entity.
A total of 166 people were killed in the 26/11 terror attacks at multiple sites, including hotels, a pub, a railway station, and a Jewish Community Centre.
