Jaipur: Two days after cautioning India against uniting with the US against China, former external affairs minister Natwar Singh on Friday revealed that the US did try to interfere in matters related to India's domestic politics during United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.

The US wanted Montek Ahluwalia to be the Finance Minister instead of Pranab Mukherjee, Singh told a news agency.

During an event in Jaipur on Wednesday, the former external affairs minister said that India should not unite with the US against China as it could be "disastrous".

"The era of superpower has gone. America is not the only superpower and its influence has come down. America would like India to come together against China but it could be disastrous," he had cautioned.
