New Delhi: Reacting strongly to the Nainital High Court order on 9 Congress rebel MLAs, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that 'it is a joke on democracy'.

"Now, the new method is you disqualify the dissenters and then hold floor test. What is this 'tamasha'? It is a joke on democracy," the Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Parliamentary Affairs said.

"What is happening in Uttarakhand is 'naya loktantra' followed by 'kutantra' of the Congress party," Venkaiah Naidu alleged.

Earlier, in the day, the Nainital High Court had dismissed the petition of nine rebel MLAs seeking to vote in the confidence motion scheduled for Tuesday.
