Vasundhara Raje should be sacked or dismissed: RTI

New Delhi: RTI activist Subhash Agarwal on Monday said Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's role in connection with the controversy surrounding former IPL boss Lalit Modi is not only immoral and unethical but anti-national.

"I read the RTI and its reply that has been filed and in my view the MEA has given the right reply. But it doesn't mean that whatever is happening is right. The role of Rajasthan Chief Minister in Lalit Modi row is not only immoral, unethical and corrupt practices but I would call it to be anti-nationalism....Vasundhara Raje should be suspended immediately or should be asked to give her resignation," Agarwal told ANI.

"In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' yesterday, we had high hopes that he will talk something about this case but it is really unfortunate that talks related to corruption are not done in the 'Mann Ki Baat'," he added.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has declined to provide information to an RTI plea containing queries on aspects related to the controversy over restoration of Lalit Modi's passport.

Responding to an RTI plea containing seven questions, the MEA said while a part of the queries did not come under the purview of the transparency law and regarding others it pleaded lack of information.

The questions included one about who took the decision on not appealing in the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court's 2014 decision restoring Lalit Modi's passport in 2010.

"The office of External Affairs Minister (EAM) has informed that the questions in Serial 1 to 3 of your RTI do not seem to fall under the purview of the RTI act, 2005. As regards to queries serial no. 4 to 7, no information is available with EAM's office," the MEA said in its reply dated June 26 to the applicant from Haryana.

The MEA said the application has been "transferred" to its Consular, Passport and Visa Division, the Finance Ministry and the Home Ministry.
