New Delhi: Veteran Ram Kishen Grewal, who committed suicide over the alleged delay in OROP implementation, was under severe debt, a media report said on Thursday.
Ex-serviceman Grewal, who was also an ex-sarpanch, had reportedly borrowed money from various people to meet his expenses. He was also reportedly unhappy over the fact that his grievances were not heard.
He was not able to repay the debt and that might be a reason for taking the extreme step, Zee news reported.
Though politicians have expressed support to the bereaved family, no one actually spared a minute to attend the last rites of the deceased, said a well wisher.
The Congress, which is criticising the government for improper implementation of OROP, had actually reduced the pension amount by about 70 percent in 2006.
