Why did you choose Smriti Irani as HRD minister? Congress leader asks PM Narendra Modi

Congress general secretary Gurudas Kamat on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.

Jaipur: Congress general secretary Gurudas Kamat on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.

Speaking during a two-day tour of five Rajasthan districts to campaign for the municipal elections, Kamat put a question mark on the qualifications of BJP leader Smriti Irani to be the HRD minister.

The Congress' general secretary in-charge of Rajasthan also accused Modi of being interested more in TV serials than addressing the plight of farmers.

Addressing a campaign rally in Bhilwara yesterday, Kamat asked the PM to explain why he chose Irani to be the HRD minister.

"Her (Irani) family's financial condition was not good; therefore, she worked in a hotel in Versova. Since, Smriti was only 10th pass, she cleaned tables in the hotel," Kamat said.

Notably, Smriti Irani used to work at a fast food restaurant in Mumbai before beginning her career in modelling. She gained stardom by working in TV serials and the rest is history.

Hitting out at Modi, Kamat said he chose 'uneducated' Irani in Council of Minister because of some 'self interest'.

"As soon as BJP came to power in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made Smriti a Minister. Uneducated Smriti has become 'Mai Tulsi Tere Aangan ki`," a channel's website quoted Kamat as saying.

The Congress leader further also likened Modi to Hitler.
