Will raise AUSU leader issue in Parl: JD(U) Gen Secy KC Tyagi

Tyagi alleged that it is a "deep-rooted conspiracy" of the BJP to place ABVP among the students and remove the non-BJP faction from the unions.

New Delhi: JD(U) general secretary K C Tyagi Sunday said his party, along with other Opposition parties, will raise the case of Allahabad University Students' Union president Richa Singh in Parliament as well as seek the President's intervention in the matter.

"Union HRD Ministry wants to impose the RSS agenda on the educational institutions, leading to spread of discontentment among the students. We will approach the President as well as raise the issue in Parliament along with major Opposition parties," he told PTI here.

Singh, who met Tyagi to garner support for her, has alleged that the university is "mentally torturing" her for the last six months after she had stopped BJP MP Yogi Adityanath's entry into the varsity.

Tyagi alleged that it is a "deep-rooted conspiracy" of the BJP to place ABVP among the students and remove the non-BJP faction from the unions.

"We all know what happened to Rohith Vemula of Hyderabad University, Kanhaiya Kumar of JNU. We will never allow same to happen with Richa," he said.

After meeting Tyagi, Singh said she had received positive response from him and will approach other MPs personally or through email to urge them to raise the issue in and outside Parliament.

Singh claimed that she had written to Union HRD Ministry several times about the harassment but "did not get any response".

"After Hyderabad University and JNU, the Allahabad university is the target. I have written five letters complaining about the harassment to Union HRD Ministry but all the efforts turned futile," she alleged.

Singh said such "harassment" would discourage the women to take such posts in the 128-year-old university.

"On one hand, the government is going to celebrate women's day on March 8, has announced schemes for empowernment of women and on other hand, no action is being taken when a women is being mentally tortured," she alleged.

She said ABVP had won four seats in the panel in the varsity polls and alleged, "It is the plan to remove her and install the ABVP as the President".

A PhD scholar, she was admitted in 2013-14 in the varsity's Globalisation and Development Studies Centre.
