Yakub Memon: The two men who lead police to 'House of Memons'

New Delhi: Yakub Memon has paid with his life for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Two men played a role in Yakub's conviction in the case as it was their testimony, among others, that led the police to the house of Memons.

Sabhajit Singh and Dr Jaichand K Mandot were two average Mumbaikars till fate gave them important roles in bringing the perpetrators of the blasts - that left 257 people dead - to justice.

77-year-old Singh worked as a security guard in Worli in 1993 and was the first person to spot the white Maruti Omni car laden with weapons. The Omni had led the police to the Memons.

In an interview to Mid-Day, Singh said that he was promised Rs 3,000 as reward but is yet to receive it.

Dr Mandot, now 63, was the other person whose testimony established the link between the blasts and the Memons.

As per Mid-Day, two days after the blasts on March 12, 1993, Dr Mandot grew suspicious of a scooter parked outside his clinic in Dadar and alerted the police. The scooter was found stuffed with RDX.

His alertness saved hundreds of lives that day.

Later the police recovered matching keys of the scooter from Tiger Memon's house.
