Mumbai: Days ahead of 1993 Mumbai terror blasts convict Yakub Memon's execution, his wife wife Raheen Memon has appealed to the Indian government to grant him clemency and said that he is unwell.

Speaking exclusively to Zee Media correspondent Ashwini Pandey, Raheen said, “I appeal to the Government of India for clemency, to commute his sentence to life term. Yakub, me and our daughter have suffered a lot.”

She said that the decision to speak now was taken as it was “high time”.

Speaking about her meeting with the death row convict, Raheen said that he was shattered as he had high hopes from curative petition which was rejected on July 21.

She added that despite the rejection of his petition, Yakub assured her that he still had faith in the judiciary of India, honourable Governor, chief minister, prime minister and president and that they will not hang him.

Raheen added that he is suffering from schizophrenia and his condition is deteriorating.

When asked whether Yakub Memon is paying for the crimes committed by Tiger Memon, pleading her husband's innocence she said he is paying for someone else's deeds without naming any particular individual.

Raheen urged the Government of India to convert Yakub's death penalty to life term and said that the health of his mother is failing and their daughter has not spend a full single day with her father.

Yakub's 21-year-old daughter Zubeida said that she has not spent even a complete single day with her father.

“When I met him, he told me to be calm in life and focus on education. He is a perfect gentleman and that is why I love, adore and respect him. He is innocent.”

(Zee News does not agree with the allegations and claims made by the family of Yakub Memon. Zee News believes that he is a terrorist and responsible for Mumbai blasts which killed 257 people. He has been given death penalty by the Supreme Court.)
