15 detained for militancy, fake currency racket

Fifteen persons, allegedly involved in separate militancy related incidents and a fake currency racket, were detained in south Kashmir`s Anantnag district over a week.

Srinagar: Fifteen persons, allegedly
involved in separate militancy related incidents and a fake
currency racket, were detained in south Kashmir`s Anantnag
district over a week.

"In the drive against militancy and fake currency,
Police has detained seven persons this week from south Kashmir
Anantnag district," a police spokesman said.

A group of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) activists, headed by
one Firdous Ahmad Peer alias Jana Peer, was recently busted,
he said.

He said Peer, a self-styled District Commander of the
outfit, was involved in fresh recruitment of youth in
militancy in South Kashmir.

"He has been instrumental in arranging logistic
support for LeT cadres including fund raising and has been
providing help in the form of providing SIM cards to LeT
cadres," the spokesman said, adding, Peer was arrested after
hectic efforts of Police.

One pistol, one magazine, two rounds, one grenade and
one wireless set were recovered from his possession.

During the course of investigation, four more persons
were arrested for their involvement in militancy related
activities and were associates of Peer.

Three accused, including Peer, were booked under
Public Safety Act (PSA). The other two have been identified as
Azad Ahmad Shah alias Dr Faisal and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat.

The police in south Kashmir district also busted a
fake currency racket arresting nine persons involved in it,
the spokesman said.

A computer and fake currency notes of hundred
denominations, printed from one side only, were recovered from
their possession.

In another operation, police arrested a militant of
Hizbul Mujhaideen outfit, Mohammad Younis Bhat alias Imtiyaz
Khanday, he said.

One AK 47 riffle, one magazine and 20 rounds were
recovered from his possession.

Bhat was allegedly threatening the people of dire
consequences in case they took part in ongoing Panchayat
elections.

He was also detained under PSA.
