48,664 weapons recovered in J&K in twenty years

The over two-decade long militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has seen the recovery of 48,664 weapons, including 30,473 AK-series rifles, a State Home Ministry report said.

Jammu: The over two-decade long militancy in
Jammu and Kashmir has seen the recovery of 48,664 weapons, including 30,473 AK-series rifles, a State Home Ministry report said.

As per the recent report on militancy compiled upto
November end, as many as 48,664 weapons, including 30,473
deadly AK-type rifles and 11,189 pistols and revolvers were
recovered by security forces and police during the past two
decades.

Giving further details, it said 30,473 AK rifles of 47,
56, 74-make, 1,189 pistols and revolvers, 1,023 Universal
Machine Guns (UMGs), 77 Carbines, 2147 rocket RPG and launchers, 216 LMG and SLRs, 284 number of 303 rifles, 386 sniper Rifles, 69 GPMGs and 2,800 rocket boosters.
The highest number of 3,504 AK type rifles were recovered
in 1992 and 295 rifles were recovered this year, as compared
to 285 in 2009, it said.
Similarly, 185 pistols were recovered in 2010, followed
by 186 in 2009 and highest number of such recoveries of 1,052
in 1996.
