Accountability Commission becomes functional

The Jammu and Kashmir State Accountability Commission (SAC) became functional as justice (retired) Yash Paul Nargotra took oath as chairperson of the anti-corruption watchdog here.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir State
Accountability Commission (SAC) became functional as justice
(retired) Yash Paul Nargotra took oath as chairperson of the
anti-corruption watchdog here.

Justice (rtd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain was also
administered the oath as a member of the Commission by
Governor N N Vohra on Sunday.

Justice (retired) Nargotra was appointed chairperson
of the Commission for a period of three years earlier this
month.

The State Accountability Commission is empowered to
look into complaints against public figures including
ministers and the Chief Minister.

The Act is a state equivalent of a Lokpal.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony, Vohra emphasised
the need for an early appointment of the second member of the
Accountability Commission.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Tara
Chand and Assembly Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone attended the
ceremony.
