Allow us to go to people: Geelani to government

Syed Ali Shah Geelani said a movement similar to early 1990s would surface in J&K if the govenment continues to put restrictions on leaders.

Srinagar: Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Tuesday said a movement similar to early 1990s would surface in Jammu and Kashmir if the govenment continues to put restrictions on leaders.

"They (government) saw the people`s participation in my rallies and it has caused a frustration in them. That is why I have been kept under house arrest," he told a seminar here.

The youths took to the gun in 1990 and "if you do not allow us to go to the people and convey our message, a similar situation can arise," Geelani said.

Referring to Pakistan, he said "the primary thing is that there should be stability there. This is the biggest responsibility of that nation.

"Pakistan should solve its internal issues, treat the people of Balochistan as Pakistanis and ensure an end to drone attacks."
