Amarnath Yatra registration begins

Over 16,000 people have registered themselves on first day of registration for annual Amarnath Yatra which will begin from last week of next month.

Srinagar: Over 16,000 people have registered themselves on the first day of registration for the annual Amarnath Yatra which will begin from the last week of next month.

On the first day of registration, 16,553 persons used the Internet based e-Registration facility and 174 bank branches for registering the dates and routes on which they wish to perform this year`s yatra, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) Navin K Choudhary said.

The pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath is scheduled to begin from June 25 and will conclude on August 2.

The registration through Jammu and Kashmir Bank`s website began yesterday while while registration through 100 post offices will begin on May 15.

Choudhary said of the 16,553 registrations, 7,972 have opted for the traditional Pahalgam route, while 8,581 have secured registration for the Baltal route.

He said valid yatra permits ensure against any avoidable inconvenience to pilgrims on their arrival at the base camps.

All the registered pilgrims have been provided free accident insurance cover of Rs one lakh, Choudhary said.
